Gunnison Highschool Soccer: $4,000
Funds provided to support the Gunnison High School Boys Soccer team in its fourth (and final) incubation year. During the 4-year probationary period, these funds help provide coaches, officials, medical supplies, transportation costs and team uniforms. Following the probationary period, the School District assumes financial responsibility for the new soccer program.
Crested Butte Boys Lacrosse: $3,000
Funds provided to support the Crested Butte Boys Lacrosse team in its third (of 4) incubation years. The funds will be used to help catalyze the development of the team by supporting the cost of coaches, officials, transportation and the development of a team equipment loaner program.
Gunnison County Library District: $5,000
Funds awarded for the development of the Library Loop Trail; a winding, gravel path that will connect the newly constructed public library to an early childhood outdoor adventure play area, a park nearby park and tennis courts, and the existing Van Tuyl trail. That new trail has been designed to accommodate people of all ages and abilities.
Gunnison Nordic: $1,481
Funds provided to support the purchase of Gunnison Nordic’s very own brush hog; a critical piece of equipment used to prepare free and publicly accessible winter trails adjacent to down town Gunnison. In particular, the equipment will be used to prime the Nordic tracks on the City of Gunnison’s Van Tuyl Open Space and the Gunnison Community School’s Practice Field Loop, used by over 140 students each year.
West Elk Hockey Association: $4,019
Funds awarded to help catalyze West Elk Hockey Association’s (WEHA) ‘Growing Girls Hockey Program’. The program has been designed to help address the decline in girl hockey participants. The program will include bringing-on a Girls Hockey Coordinator, host free clinics and provide free rental equipment to participants.
Crested Butte Music Festival: $2,500
Funds awarded to support the Music Festival’s Community Enrichment Program. In particular, the grant funds will support the Program’s effort to bring free performances to the Gunnison Valley Hospital Care Center and Community School performances in Gunnison and Crested Butte.
Crested Butte Center for the Arts: $5,000
Funds awarded to support a cultural enrichment residency collaboration between the Crested Butte Center for the Arts and Kissidugu Foundation. Programming offered as part of the collaboration include Guinean dance, drumming, Afro-fusion dance classes, Dundun dance class, break-dance classes, and more.

Funds awarded will support the construction of the CB Nordic Outpost, a two-story, 2,880 square foot facility designed to provide administrative offices for CB Nordic staff, a team room for the CB Nordic ski team. MetRec’s contribution represents about a 4% match for the total project cost.
Crested Butte Land Trust: $5,000
Funded the construction of the 1.5 mile Long Lake Accessible trails. The 42″ wide public trail provides access for recreationists with a diverse array of abilities. The trail was designed to honor the community’s vision for the Long Lake area. MetRec’s contribution represents about a 28% match of the total project costs.
Town of Crested Butte: $50,000
Funds awarded to renovate the Big Mine Skatepark. MetRec’s contribution represents about an 8% match towards the total cost.
Crested Butte Mountain Bikes Association: $49,209
Funds awarded to support the Crested Butte Conservation Corp trail and stewardship efforts. MetRec’s contribution represents about 8% of the CBMBA/CBCC budget.

Developed Recreation Grant Program
Gunnison County Fairgrounds: $16,367
Funds awarded to install new solar lights to improve safety for the multi-use, public Fairground. The project will benefit the public as well as the Fairground’s many user groups, including but not limited to equestrians, the Gunnison Roping Club, the Mule Clinic, 4-H Horse Events, and Cattlemen’s Days Rodeo and Horse Show.
Town of Crested Butte: $24,400
Funds awarded for the construction of the Slate River Boat Launch; a riverfront park providing recreational access to the Slate River. The project will provide an important recreational amenity while mitigating environmental impacts to the river corridor. The project will include the installation of interpretive signage, two changing areas, a toilet, kayak and paddle board racks, trash receptacles, a river pebble beach area, and stone slab steps and a timber boat slide for river access.
Gunnison Arts Center: $20,000
Funds awarded for the construction of a flexible event space at the Gunnison Arts Center. The new space will boast retractable theatre risers and seats as well as moveable galley walls. It will also support a larger variety of entertainment and cultural recreation opportunities to more people across the Gunnison Valley.
City of Gunnison: $25,235
Funds awarded for the development of the Lazy K Park Playground. The Lazy K Park is part of a 15-acre development in west Gunnison. With close proximity to the development’s planned and existing housing units as well as the newly renovated Senior Care Center. the Park will provide direct access to recreational activities for Gunnison families and its senior population.

Funds awarded to support Crested Butte South’s Parks Master Planning Project, to guide the community in the further development and improvement of the area’s Red Mountain and Brackenbury Parks.

Funds awarded to help expand the Gunnison Senior Center’s Summer and Fall hiking programs. In particular, funds will enable the Senior Center to enhance safety measures which have been identified as a key barrier preventing seniors from engaging in the summer and fall outdoor recreation programming.
Crested Butte Enrichment Program After School Clubs: $5,000
Funds provided to support a variety of free artistic, cultural and educational after school opportunities at the Crested Butte Community School. Awarded funds will also support an enriching artistic bilingual musical performance by the Creede Repertory Theatre for all K-5 students.
Gunnison County Substance Abuse Prevention Project (GCSAPP): $4,000
Funds awarded to GCSAPP’s Choice Pass Program, a community coalition working to reduce substance use and support healthy outcomes for youth and families through recreation programming. The Choice Pass Program provides youth access to 40 discounted recreational programs and amenities.
West Elk Soccer Association: $3,116
Funding awarded for the purchase of new soccer balls for West Elk Soccer Association’s (WESA) 13 youth soccer teams. In five years, WESA has grown by 3x and now serves over 250 Gunnison Valley youth.
Adaptive Sports Center: $5,000
Funds awarded to support the Adaptive Sports Center’s (ASC) Community Programming Scholarships. ASC provides six community programs: Community Kids, Ski for PE, Locals Lessons, Family Days, Six Points and Special Olympics. Met Rec grant funds allow ASC to provide full or partial scholarships to community youth and adults with disabilities.
Crested Butte Mountain Heritage Museum: $1,600
Funds awarded to support the Museum’s History at Home program, a series of 12 virtual presentations from subject-area experts on local history. This cultural recreation offering will cover topics from ranching in Gunnison County to the history of Tenderfoot (“W”) Mountain.
Town of Mt. Crested Butte: $3,950
Funds awarded for the installation of a bike wash and bike tool/pump station along the Mt. Crested Butte Recreation Path. The station will serve as valued recreational amenity to cyclists traveling on the popular Recreation Path.

Gunnison County: $45,000
Funds awarded for the development of Shady Island River Park. The project will include a new, safe river access point for anglers and boaters as well as a parking area, bathrooms, trails, picnic pavilion and tables, a children’s nature play area, and 19 campsites.
Gunnison Valley OHV Alliance of Trail Riders: $5,000
Funds awarded to complete the development of the Hartman Rocks Terrain Park. The work to be completed includes re-working the jump faces, improving the track surface, and completing the infill of features to provide a safer experience.
Town of Crested Butte: $30,000
Funds awarded for the addition of four heated changing rooms at the Big Mine Ice Arena for the Valley’s youth and adult hockey programs. Simultaneously, this project will help alleviate congestion in the near-by Warming House which has long hosted hockey and Nordic participants.

Gunnison Valley Mentors: $2,500
Funds awarded to support Gunnison Valley Mentors weekly After-School Program and monthly Group Recreation Activities. The programs enable youth (ages 6-17) to engage in cultural and physcial recreation opportunities.
Gunnison High School Soccer: $3,320
Funds awarded to support the newly developed Gunnison High School Boys Soccer Team. The team has been added on a probationary basis for four seasons, after which point it will become a full-funded and completely sustained team supported by the Gunnison School District.

The new park facility will be located on West Tomichi Avenue and will provide paved pedestrian access to the river, fishing ponds and other recreational amenities.
