The Gunnison County Metropolitan Recreation District (MetRec) is seeking a full-time Project Coordinator to support public communications, grant programming, TV operations, and capital project development. This dynamic role involves managing web and social media content, coordinating recreation grants, assisting TV services, and supporting planning efforts to enhance community recreation.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years experience in communications, program coordination, or grant work

  • Strong writing, organizational, and multitasking skills

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, social media, and project management tools

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

Salary: $70,000–$80,000 + benefits including PTO, retirement match, and health stipend.

General Statement of Duties

The Project Coordinator supports MetRec’s communication efforts, recreation grant programming, TV operations, and project development. This position ensures the smooth coordination of MetRec’s initiatives to enhance community recreation opportunities and support district-wide operations.

 

Supervision Received

Works under the direct supervision of the Executive Director.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The primary duties will be determined by a mosaic of the candidate’s skill set, which may include the following duties:

·       Communication Coordination

·       Manage MetRec’s public communications across the web, in newspapers, on the radio, and on social media.

·       Develop and schedule content effectively, communicating MetRec’s programs, initiatives, and updates.

·       Collaborate with stakeholders to promote MetRec’s activities and community impact.

·       Recreation Grant Program Coordination

·       Support the administration of MetRec’s annual recreation grant cycle.

·       Assist in tracking grant applications, funding distributions, and reporting requirements.

·       Communicate with grant applicants and recipients to ensure compliance and program success.

·       TV Operations Coordination

·       Assist the TV Engineer in coordinating the operation and maintenance of MetRec’s TV broadcasting services.

·       Track service needs, assist in reporting, and support equipment and system monitoring.

·       Project Development

·       External grant writing

·       Assistance with capital project planning and coordination

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

·       Strong written and verbal communication skills.

·       Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and meet deadlines.

·       Experience with social media, website management, and public relations.

·       Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.

·       Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

·       Ability to work independently while collaborating with a small team.

·       Problem-solving skills and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.

 

Qualifications/Experience

·       A bachelor’s degree in communications, public administration, business, or a related field is preferred.

·       2+ years experience in program coordination, communications, or grant administration.

·       Experience in recreation, nonprofit, or government organizations is a plus.

 

Working Conditions/Physical Activities

·       This is a full-time position, primarily Monday – Friday, with occasional weekend availability as needed.

·       Work is primarily performed in an in-person office environment, with some remote work opportunities.

·       The position can be fast-paced and shift between duties on a daily basis.

·       Some travel within the district may be required for site visits, events, or community engagement.

·       Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times.

 

Compensation

·       Salary range between $70,000 to $80,000

·       Paid time off

·       Up to a 5% match on retirement
